Octane Volume Gradient Medium

Layout_pmttqRuuk5.png

The Volume Gradient node can connect to Absorption, Scattering, and Emission ramps in Volume Mediums. t differs from a normal texture gradient because it is applies to just a Volume medium node, and takes into account a given maximum grid value based on the grid indices in the volume data set.

It can accept a Gradient input from the ACGradient Node

The Gradient node is not equivalent to the LightWave 3d gradient; for that, the Octane Volume Ramp node is a better choice.

Input Parameters

The node has two (2) inputs:

  • Gradient - This input is the new ACGradient node which has a new UI to set-up gradients.

Output Parameters

The node has a single color (vector) output.

  • Octane Volume Ramp - This color output can be plugged into the Absorption, Emission or Scattering inputs of the Volume Medium Node.

The UI allows you to choose the interpolation type and Maximum Value for the gradient to be applied. You can choose either Physical or Perceptual interpolation.

Usage

In this example, two (2) gradients are used to independently control both the Absorption and Scattering properties of the Octane Volume Medium.
