If you have a Retina display, you will be able to test more easily than if you do not have a Retina (or 4K or 5K) display.
If you do not have a HiDPI monitor attached, you may be able to force HiDPI (hi dots per inch) screen modes for your non-HiDPI monitor.
Keep in mind that LightWave only supports HiDPI OpenGL 3D viewports (and some other limited areas).
To enable HiDPI mode in OS X Mavericks or later
From the Terminal app:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist DisplayResolutionEnabled -bool true sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist DisplayResolutionEnabled
Then, restart your Mac.
Look for "(HiDPI)" modes in: System Preferences | Displays | Resolution | Scaled
You may have to hold 'option' keyboard key while clicking on "Scaled" radio button to see more choices.
