QuickBolt HiLo Thread Options

When this option is selected you will be able to generate a Hi-Lo thread and you will be able to adjust the parameters that define the shape of the Hi-Lo thread.

Note that in this instance the "Hi" component of the Hi-Lo thread is defined by the Standard thread parameters (i.e. Major Diameter, Crest %, and Root % are equivalent to Hi Major Diameter, Hi Crest %, and Hi Root %). The thread Length, Pitch and Direction values are common to both the "Hi" and the "Lo" components of the Hi-Lo thread.

The Lo Thread Parameters (see figures 1 and 2 below) are:

  • Lo Major Diameter - The diameter of the Lo part of the thread. This is the distance between the axis of the thread and the crest of the Lo thread measured perpendicular to the thread axis. Values of zero or those less than the Minor Diameter are illegal and will generate a warning message.
  • Lo Crest% - The width of the Lo thread crest expressed as a percentage of the pitch. Values greater than 50%, or those that result in Crest%+Root% exceeding 100% are considered illegal and will generate a warning message.
  • Lo Root% - The width of the Lo thread root expressed as a percentage of the pitch. Values greater than 50%, or those that result in Crest%+Root% exceeding 100% are considered illegal and will generate a warning message.
  • Hi/Lo Base Ratio - This allows you to specify the ratio between the base lengths of the Hi and Lo portions of the thread as measured along the Thread Minor Diameter (see Figure 2 below). A value of 0.5 means that the thread bases will be the same length. A value of 0.75 will produce a thread with the Hi Thread Base being 3 times that of the Lo Thread Base. Likewise, a value of 0.25 would mean that the Lo Thread Base would be 3 times that of the Hi Thread Base.
